About Dr. Kim
Dr. Kim provides his patients with compassionate, leading-edge urological care. He has special interest and training in minimally invasive treatments of urological cancer, primarily prostate, kidney, and bladder cancers. Through the use of robotic, laparoscopic, and endoscopic approaches, Dr. Kim’s patients benefit from less postoperative pain, faster healing times and excellent surgical outcomes. Dr. Kim is committed to helping all patients, including those with highly complex urological problems.
Dr. Kim grew up in San Francisco. He graduated with honors from the University of California, Berkeley, with a major in Biochemistry. His interest in medicine and cancer research led him to the University of California, San Francisco, where he earned his combined M.D. and Ph.D. degrees through the highly selective Medical Scientist Training Program. He completed his doctorate degree under the guidance of the Nobel laureate Dr. Elizabeth Blackburn. Dr. Kim’s research in cancer biology led to several peer-reviewed publications and awards at national meetings.
Moses Kim, MD, Ph.D., President and Chief Executive Officer of Orange County Urology Associates, provides his patients nationally recognized, expert surgical care. In this video, Dr. Kim describes the benefits of robotic prostatectomy (prostate removal) using the Intuitive Surgical single-port technique. With this latest innovation, surgical incisions are reduced from five to a single incision, improving postoperative recovery and healing while achieving optimal cancer treatment.
Dr. Kim went on to Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, for internship and residency in urology. There, as a resident physician, he performed the Texas Medical Center’s first ever robot assisted partial nephrectomy for the treatment of kidney cancer. He furthered his research interest studying cancer vaccines in the treatment of prostate cancer. After his residency, Dr. Kim completed a fellowship in robotic and minimally invasive surgery at Baylor College of Medicine, with an emphasis on treating urologic cancers through minimally invasive methods.
Dr. Kim serves as the President of Orange County Urology Associates, a leading, large urology private practice group in Orange County. He serves as Chair of Urology at Hoag Memorial Hospital, and is a founding member of Hoag’s Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery. Dr. Kim is the team urologist for the NFL’s Los Angeles Chargers. He has been named a rising star by Super Doctors, which ranks him in the elite top 2.5% of all doctors in California.
Since joining Orange County Urology Associates in 2009, Dr. Kim has continued to focus on urologic oncology, performing over 1,000 robotic surgeries for the treatment of prostate, kidney, bladder, and testis cancer. Committed to cutting edge cancer care, he performed the first robotic SP (single-port) surgery in Southern California. In single-port surgery, only one small incision is needed to insert all the tiny tools necessary to perform the surgery, compared to five or six incisions in standard robotic procedures. This newest robotic technology ensures faster recovery times and is less disfiguring.

In his free time, Dr. Kim enjoys skiing, fishing, and going to sports events with his family. Having grown up in San Francisco, he is a lifelong Giants and 49ers fan, a loyalty he has passed on to his sons.
“Urology is a great combination of surgery and patient relationships. I love seeing patients I’ve operated on year after year, building long-term relationships. You don’t often get that in other surgical specialties. Secondly, urology has always been at the forefront of adopting new technology. We use several different types of lasers, robotics and even sound waves. I’m always on the lookout for new technologies that may benefit my patients.”
“I hope to reassure my patients, put them at ease and give them great results. It’s a privilege to have a job that allows me to help people every day.”
